TASK A – Essay (circa 300 parole)
Literature, Reading and the Digital Age
In today’s world, smartphones and digital devices have become an essential part of everyday life. They allow people to communicate instantly, access information and entertain themselves at any time. However, as James Marriott suggests, the growing influence of screens may be reducing the time people dedicate to reading books and literature.
Reading novels, poems and essays offers benefits that cannot easily be replaced by social media or short online content. Literature helps readers understand different cultures, emotions and perspectives. Through books, people can experience situations they have never lived and develop empathy for others. Reading also improves language skills, critical thinking and concentration.
Many examples from literature show the importance of books in shaping personal growth. Classic works such as George Orwell’s 1984 or Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird encourage readers to reflect on society, justice and individual freedom. These themes remain relevant today and help young people develop a deeper understanding of the world.
At the same time, technology should not be viewed only as a threat. Digital platforms can make books more accessible through e-books and online libraries. Educational websites also provide opportunities to learn and discover new authors. The challenge is finding a balance between the benefits of technology and the value of traditional reading.
From my personal experience, reading a good book allows me to disconnect from distractions and focus on a single story or idea. It offers a level of reflection that social media rarely provides. For this reason, I believe literature remains an essential tool for personal and intellectual development, even in the digital age.

The Olympic Spirit: More Than Just Sport
The Olympic and Paralympic Games are among the most important international events in the world. They bring together athletes from different countries, cultures and backgrounds, promoting values such as respect, friendship and fair play.
As United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres stated, the Games represent a celebration of human potential and perseverance. Every athlete who competes has dedicated years of hard work and sacrifice to reach the highest level of competition. Their stories inspire millions of people around the world.
The Paralympic Games are particularly powerful because they demonstrate that physical limitations do not prevent people from achieving extraordinary goals. Paralympic athletes show determination, courage and resilience, becoming role models for younger generations.
The Olympics also play an important social role. In a world often divided by political tensions and conflicts, sport can create opportunities for dialogue and cooperation. During the Games, athletes compete against one another while sharing common values and mutual respect.
However, the Olympic movement also faces challenges, including high organisational costs and environmental concerns. For this reason, future editions should focus on sustainability and responsible management.
In my opinion, the Olympic and Paralympic Games continue to be a symbol of hope. They remind us that dedication, teamwork and respect can unite people beyond national borders. More than simply sporting events, they represent the best values humanity can offer.
